The role of Registered Nurse – Occupational Health Nurse is quite diverse. It involves patient care as well as extensive administrative responsibilities. The position will interpret client needs, assess requirements and identify solutions to nonstandard issues and requests will counsel and educate clients on health and wellness in the workplace and provide input into policy and process development. The position works to ensure Alberta Health Services values, goals and principles are implemented and integrated in the delivery of services to client groups. The position is also responsible for: Provide clinical support, advice, direction, and input into the needs of fellow staff and managers in relation to health promotion, safety and hygiene, and disease/injury prevention programs. Act as healthcare provider for AHS staff and representatives. Ensuring the highly sensitive confidential health information of fellow staff and AHS representatives. Assisting in the implementation of program and policy strategies to address workplace health and safety hazards. Promoting WHS programs and strategic priorities. Delivering programs and services to staff and line managers to meet their needs, including: Occupational immunizations. Occupational health assessments/ monitoring. Needle stick and blood/ body fluid exposure (BBFE) follow up. Communicable disease exposure (CDE) follow up and investigation. WCB Case Management. Employee/Family Assistance Program awareness. Noise Management Program. Hazard assessment and control. Skin integrity/Hand Health investigations. Respiratory fit testing, Ergonomic review and other consultation/duties as required. Measure and monitor outcomes of current WHS programs and new initiatives. Consulting with and referring to appropriate stakeholders and specialists (e.g. IPC, Public Health).
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
OHN Completion or in the process of completing Occupational Health Nurse certification. A minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Health Nursing in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is preferred (healthcare experience an asset). A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees, co-workers, physicians, and public. Evidence of effective interpersonal skills in dealing with employee, peers, medical staff, and the public. Evidence of flexibility, initiative, commitment and confidentiality. Requirement, travel between sites as site assignments change based on operational needs. Ability to do on call shifts, this includes taking calls during the night, week-ends and statutory holidays. Preferred Qualifications:
Current and maintained registration and practice permit as a Registered Nurse with CARNA B.Sc.N. and Completion Occupational Health Nurse certification. Experience in Occupational Health field an asset. Ability to assess and evaluate new employees in relation to physical demands of the position. Ability to function in a dynamic work environment. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees, co-workers, physicians, and public.
