The QC Technician’s goal is to ensure the final quality of Aggregate and Asphalt products, ensuring the highest customer satisfaction for the products. Areas of responsibility include the QC testing of raw materials, asphalt batches and the control of mix designs. This position will be responsible for preparation of all Marshall and Superpave mix designs; familiar with all relevant asphalt test procedures, aggregate property tests, preparation and reporting of the test data.

Quality Control

  • Quality control through the active testing of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods
  • Design and development of aggregate and asphalt products to service customer needs (design aggregate skeleton of the various mix types, i.e. Marshall, Superpave, SMA, OGFC, etc)
  • Responsible for the testing, evaluation and preparation of the above noted mix design types
  • Researching and developing new asphalt products. Troubleshooting problems on project sites and at plants, including field investigations.
  • Assist in asphalt plant operation, with a focus on the optimization of mix designs and ensuring production cost is kept to a minimum
  • Continual liaison with plant and suppliers to monitor product(s) and consult on quality.
  • Participate in resolution of long term product development and product problems.
  • Professionally and tactfully communicate through reports and letters on matters pertaining to product performance and customers.
  • Assist the Operation Managers as well as production staff in various technical functions in the operations
  • Solid team member within the business unit, flexible with regards to hours of work
  • Maintain quality as per specification requirements
  • Maintain and develop strong working relationship with customers and/or representatives
  • Sales and promotion of Lafarge products to customers to maximize profitability.
  • Supervise, train, and act as mentor to other asphalt lab technicians within the business unit

Performs other operational duties as assigned.



  • Completion of 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of training and experience

Experience and Skill Set:

  • Technically sound in all facets of aggregate and asphalt hot mix quality control and quality assurance testing
  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred
  • Positive, responsible individual capable of working effectively with limited supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Able/willing to perform physical work in a construction environment.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge (Ex: Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
  • Valid BC Drivers License is required along with a reliable means of transportation
