CWB’s Optimum Mortgage team is currently seeking permanent full time Mortgage Underwriter! The primary focus of the Mortgage Underwriter is to adjudicate Broker originated ‘A’ and ‘Alt A’ credit applications. The successful candidate will efficiently weigh risks using established criteria and current legislation guidelines while operating in a fast paced, sales-focused and client centric environment.

Who you are:

Underwriting. Provide strong credit decisions on sophisticated mortgage applications.

Sales Oriented. Establishing parameters for loans, pricing, terms and conditions when underwriting mortgage loans.

Risk Appetite. Maintain an adaptive risk appetite while adhering to CWBFG policies.

Compliance. Ability to efficiently analyze and evaluate supporting documentation provided by clients and brokers while staying in sync with industry compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist financing, Internal Fraud Policies and KYC.

Innovative Solutions. Go beyond and think creatively to find flexible and unique solutions for clients.

Mentor. Offer mentorship to support Mortgage Documentation Officers.

Post secondary education in commerce, finance or business or equivalent experience

Minimum two years of ‘Alt A’ or “A” underwriting/lending experience

Understanding of Insurer (CMHC and Sagen) guidelines

Solid computer savvy and application skills (Word, Excel etc.)

Outstanding and effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Demonstrated communication via email and telephone.

Dependable ability to thrive within a sophisticated and diverse organizational environment – balancing multiple tasks simultaneously with composure and humour, under pressure.

Ability to provide timely and efficient turnaround time with a strong attention to detail, ensuring referral sources are receiving same day service.
