Job description: Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Fredericton, NB. We have an established reputation for excellence in engineering in dams and hydropower projects. The successful candidate will participate in:

  • Traditional geotechnical fields such as building foundations and structures, roadways, retaining structures, levees, etc.
  • Mining projects – design of earth dams, tailings and sedimentation ponds dams, water diversion and/or control features, tailings management services, etc.
  • Hydro-electric dams and water retention systems

The candidate will be an Engineer in Training or Junior Engineer. The candidate should exhibit basic orientation, training and experience the consulting industry, i.e., how to be a consultant, how to write proposals, reports, client correspondence, and internal documents. We are seeking a committed, detail-oriented individual who will be able to build and utilize their knowledge, and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform design and analytical functions including stability, seepage, bearing capacity, and settlement analyses
  • Assist senior staff in execution of technical responsibilities for project delivery and execution
  • Perform technical writing & review of proposals & project documents; issued to clients, etc.
  • Assist senior staff in developing construction and engineering cost estimates
  • Prepare reports and coordinate support activities
  • Work as an integral team member in a multi-discipline environment
  • Liaise with other technical specialties including hydrogeology, hydrology, geochemistry, rock mechanics, environmental, and other similar disciplines
  • Conduct preliminary geotechnical field assignments under guidance of senior staff
  • Perform increasingly complex, non-routine calculations; May input data into and/or run advanced computer programs under supervision
  • Under guidance of the project manager or senior staff, represent Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understand and apply safety requirements in the field
  • Coordinate with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) while performing office assignments
  • May prepare technical papers for publication and/or presentation
  • May assist or perform field duties or assist with preparation of field equipment or collection of field and/or laboratory data
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited university with a degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering
  • Eligible to practice engineering in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to travel, domestic & international travel may be required
