Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Maintenance and Operations, the Controls Technician performs a variety of skilled tasks required for the maintenance, upgrading and renovations of HVAC systems and equipment within the central zone hospitals. This position is based at the Halifax Infirmary.


  • Grade XII plus Certified Journeyman or a graduate of an Industrial Instrumentation course, or Mechanical or Electrical Technology course.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license is required.
  • Journeyman Electrician with controls experience would also be considered.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in HVAC Control preferred.
  • Knowledge of air balancing techniques and methods is required.
  • Commercial and/or Industrial Controls experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of all HVAC systems and pneumatic and electronic control systems, devices and programming.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Customer focused.
  • Demonstrates collaboration & teamwork.
  • Travel to other sites may be required and must have access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours of Work

Permanent Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly.

Salary Information

$25.5979 – $27.6444 hourly.

This position is currently eligible for a market adjustment of $4,436.00 annually ($170.62 bi-weekly). Eligibility for this market adjustment is reviewed periodically.
