Job title: Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Inspectors
Job description: Do you love working outdoors? Interested in a great summer experience? Alberta Parks (South Region) is currently seeking an enthusiastic and outdoor-oriented person to assist with natural resource management! The position will begin early May and will be based in Lethbridge with overnight stays at various park sites.
Be a local mentor for preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. This will include conducting boat inspections while educating the public within provincial parks on AIS, most specifically: Quagga mussels, Zebra mussels and Eurasian Water Milfoil.
Also to include: liaise with, survey and deliver outreach materials, collect and manage data and work a flexible schedule that includes weekends.
Experience working outdoors and with a variety of equipment.
Completed at least one year college or university with courses or majors relating to the environmental, ecological or agriculture sciences.
Preferences may be given to candidates with work or outdoor volunteer experience related to the environmental, ecological or agricultural sciences.
Knowledge of Alberta Parks
Related experience to the posted position, for example, experience working on or around water and boats, including angling
Knowledge of invasive species
Ability to plan and organize
Effective interpersonal relations
Ability to effectively orally communicate
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must first provide the following: a valid class 5 driver’s licence; an approved driver’s abstract; defensive driving certificate; an approved criminal record check; and valid standard first aid certification.
Expected salary: $22.76 per hour
