Job Overview

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Associate or Senior Actuarial Associate is a key contributor to the Group Pricing team, ensuring actuarial pricing and product development of Group Life, Disability and Health insurance products is executed to support reasonable expected profitability, adequate level of sales, continued satisfaction of customers and responsive to emerging trends. This role will be instrumental in the development and implementation of actuarial pricing models, experience studies, reporting and analytics and support decision-making with recommendations for actuarial assumptions. This role will collaborate internally with other departments and externally with the Canadian industry.

Job Responsibilities

  • Solve problems independently and anticipates future problems and solutions
  • Evaluate complex actuarial topics and recommend/build model improvements where appropriate
  • Support the development and implementation of Group claim experience analysis and trend studies
  • Support the development and implementation of reporting and analytics
  • Review and update actuarial assumptions to reflect changes in actual company and industry experience, future expectations and market trends
  • Keep informed of applicable industry trends and interpret changes to regulatory requirements, through active participation in working groups and educational sessions. Analyze the impact to the company; recommend and implement changes as required
  • Research and perform analysis and reviews as required for in force and currently issued products
  • Support development of Group Product communication and marketing materials through data analytics
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage competing priorities
  • Seek opportunities to improve and innovate within and outside role
  • Prepare periodic reports for internal and external users
  • Prepare and present results to leadership
  • Review all work for reasonableness and ensure completeness and accuracy in all tasks completed


  • Undergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field
  • Actively pursuing the Fellowship designation of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries with a minimum of 3 completed exams.
  • Relevant actuarial work experience would be an asset
  • Knowledge of the fundamental concepts and techniques for modeling and managing risk
  • Excellent technical skills in Microsoft Excel and Access or other actuarial software and proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to select the most appropriate solution and implement in a timely manner
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and produce clearly expressed documentation with a tone and style fitting for the audience and message
  • Strong team player, working to ensure group objectives are met by making quality contributions and supporting fellow team members
  • Strong project management and time management skills with ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrates motivation and enthusiasm
  • Curious and comfortable with change
